Tracking your history
Keep your watch history, watchlist and Continue Watching on your devices, or with Trakt, Simkl, MDBList or PublicMetaDB.
Strand keeps a record of what you've watched, where you stopped, and what you want to watch next. That record can live in one place at a time. Choose it in Settings then Account then Tracking With.
| Choice | Sign in with | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| This Device | Nothing | Keeping it private. Syncs between your own devices through iCloud. The default. |
| Trakt | A code at trakt.tv/activate | Sharing your history with other apps and websites that use Trakt. |
| Simkl | A code at simkl.com/pin | The same, with Simkl. |
| MDBList | Your MDBList API key | If you already keep lists and ratings there. |
| PublicMetaDB | Your PublicMetaDB API key | If you already use PublicMetaDB. |
Choosing another service moves your tracking to it; only one tracks at a time. For MDBList and PublicMetaDB, add the key under Settings then Account then API Keys first.
What the tracker decides
With Trakt, Simkl, MDBList or PublicMetaDB chosen, that service is the only source of where you stopped and what's in Continue Watching. Strand saves to it as you watch and reads back from it, so the same progress shows up in every app connected to it.
Strand checks for changes each time you open it, and at the interval you set in Sync Interval (Sync Frequency on Apple TV).
Watchlist and favourites
Watchlist Saved To and Favourites Saved To (Watchlist Provider and Favourites Provider on Apple TV) choose where the Watchlist and Favourite buttons save. To see your watchlist on Home, add it as a row: Settings then Shelves then Add Shelf, then your tracking service or This Device → Watchlist.
Not tracking something
- Watch without Tracking in an episode's menu plays it without recording anything.
- On Media Servers, Track Only With Your Tracking Service stops your server's own watched marks mixing with your tracker's.
- Settings then Data & Storage then Reset Playback Progress clears every resume point on this device, for a Continue Watching row that's gone wrong.
Taking your history with you
On iPhone, iPad and the Mac, Export Tracking Data in Data & Storage saves your on-device history to a file.
